SCIF VIOLATIONS MUST
HAVE CONSEQUENCES
Yesterday, a group of about 30 Republicans took over the House SCIF (Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility), obstructing impeachment testimony. The Republicans who stormed SCIF claimed to be protesting the lack of access to information. Yet among them were 12 who are on the committees conducting impeachment investigations, allowing them to question witnesses and have access to all documents. It was a publicity and diversionary stunt led by Matt Gaetz, one of Trump’s most adoring sycophants.

For their five hours of media attention, these GOP Trump apologists tore up their oaths, broke House rules, and endangered national security:
- SCIF is specifically designed to prevent electronic eavesdropping and protect our national security. These GOP Trump enablers violated protocols that clearly prohibit cameras and phones—then took photos and tweeted from the inside SCIF.
- Taking unauthorized devices into SCIF is very dangerous because spy technology has become so sophisticated that hostile actors can penetrate walls and activate someone’s cell phone without the owner’s knowledge.
- Rules about the SCIF are so strict that one woman reported having difficulty bringing in her breast pump equipment.
Democratic Leaders: Ignoring this breach of our national security is NOT taking the high road. This is serious. We need to see discipline. We demand that everyone who participated in this unethical, unlawful, anti-American stunt feel serious consequences!
