PASS COMPREHENSIVE GUN LEGISLATION NOW
Gun violence is a public health crisis inflicted on America and her children by our lawmakers’ continual and consistent failures to act.
Gun violence loudly invades our lives with mass shootings, school shootings, and active shooter drills in schools.
Gun violence quietly and completely devastates day to day life when 96 people are murdered every day.
America is held hostage to this terror because lawmakers beholden to the National Rifle Association (NRA) parrot NRA talking points over protecting America and her children.
We don’t have to live under constant threat. Australia responded to a mass shooting in 1996 with comprehensive gun legislation. There have been no mass shootings since.
We need courageous leaders who will put our children’s lives ahead of donor’s cash. We need lawmakers who understand that passing comprehensive gun safety legislation is the only way to save our country and . . .
STOP the NRA!
The children of America have had this crisis thrust upon them. They are rising up to shape a brighter future – where comprehensive gun reform exists. Will Congress do the same? If this Congress won’t, we must vote in a Congress that will.
Remember, Greg Walden voted YES to repeal restrictions on gun sales to the severely mentally ill in February of last year:
The Ashland Tidings reported this morning that 250 of you joined our “Enough is Enough” rally on the Ashland Plaza. Thank you for coming out to say . . .
We Call BS!
BS to Gun Violence!
BS to Greg Walden’s Complicity with the Terrorist NRA!
**ACTION 1: Call NRA Complicit Walden and our Senators**
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)
SAMPLE SCRIPT: for NRA Complicit Walden
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am disgusted that Greg Walden has received donations from the NRA and appalled by his inaction in tackling gun violence. I demand that he put people before his donor cash flow, that he stand up to the NRA and pass comprehensive gun safety legislation now. Start with passing an assault weapons ban, requiring universal background checks on all gun sales, and funding gun violence research… and don’t stop until we have laws on the books that will keep our country and children safe. Thank you.”
SAMPLE SCRIPT: for Senators Merkley and Wyden
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am appalled at the inaction of congressional leaders to tackle gun violence. The time for incremental change is over. I demand the Senator stand up to the NRA and pass comprehensive gun safety legislation now. Start with blocking concealed carry reciprocity in the Senate, passing an assault weapons ban, requiring universal background checks on all gun sales, and funding gun violence research… and don’t stop until we have laws on the books that will keep our country and children safe. Thank you.”
**ACTION 2: Make a Plan to Combat Gun Violence**
Everytown for Gun Safety has an action plan to “kick out lawmakers beholden to the gun lobby”:
Find more ways to get involved with Everytown by texting ACT to 644-33.
**ACTION 3: Watch and Follow Emma’s Lead***
Emma Gonzalez, a senior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, spoke at a rally this weekend. Hear her words. Follow her lead. We must demand freedom from gun violence. We call BS.
