Welcome to the ORD2 Indivisible State Political Action Page!
Here are a few things you need to know:
How does the State Legislature work?
Our legislature meets annually, alternating between a short, 35-day session, or a long, 160-day session.
Just like Congress, the legislature is divided into two sections: the Senate and the House. Bills can originate on either side — or from a joint Senate/House committee — and must be passed by both and signed by the governor to become law.
There are 30 Senate districts and each one is divided into two House districts. To see maps of how the state is divided, see the Resource List on this page. The maps may look a bit gerrymandered and odd-sized, but Oregon’s population is a bit scattered. Just know that each House district represents the same number of people: 57,000.
Who represents YOU?
The Oregon State Legislature has a great website that you should probably bookmark. You’re going to want to go there a lot! To find your legislators, put your address in the box in the bottom right of the screen. Once you have found them, copy and keep their phone and email addresses. For people who live in Jackson County, we have provided contact information for legislators on this page.
What does ORD2 Indivisible do regarding state bills?
ORD2 Indivisible and other Indivisible groups across the state track bills, votes and the legislators who represent you in Salem.
How can we make a difference?
Indivisible groups work together to let you know when something big is happening — in our newsletters, emails and Facebook pages. The legislature sees sometimes thousands of bills, and we’ll sift through and try our best to understand them as they come up.
We know there’s power in numbers! So, if there is a bill or a lobby day that needs some attention, we will call for a Statewide Day of Action. It will be up to you to call, email or caravan to Salem when we need that magic Indivisible people power.
Let’s do this!
If you have information on bills or issues, or if your organization has a lobby day coming up, please let us know:
