CALL TO ACTION #795: Secure Our Elections; Support Impeachment (November 5, 2019)

363 Days

Until the 2020 Election

SECURE OUR ELECTIONS

SUPPORT IMPEACHMENT

While keeping up the pressure for impeachment, we must acknowledge Trump could win next year’s presidential election.

A combination of foreign interference including disinformation campaigns and manipulating the count by hacking into voting machines, along with State Republican efforts to suppress the vote, could add enough to Trump’s faithful base to hand him another four years.

As the House moves into the public phase of the impeachment process, our election vulnerabilities are “a national security emergency.”

Experts believe election security can be strengthened by:

  •       Using paper ballots;
  •       Requiring audits of election results;
  •       Replacing easily hacked voting equipment;
  •       Securing voter databases;
  •       Imposing sanctions on foreign governments that interfere.

In June, the House passed an election security bill requiring states to provide paper ballots and mandating specific security upgrades. They authorized $600 million for the job. We need the Senate to do the same.

As the Senate works on election security funding, the House must protect our elections and our country with the public phase of the impeachment process – ending in the impeachment and removal of Trump and Pence. We have 363 days to respond to this emergency. If we don’t, on day 364, we could wake up to another four years of Trump.

Push the Impeachment Process Forward!

Secure our Elections!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY AND WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because I want to . . .

For Wyden: Thank you for your public support for the impeachment inquiry. Today, I am asking for your help to protect our elections. I strongly support your PAVE Act, and I agree with you that McConnell’s $250 million for election security is a “joke.” Please fight for the targeted $600 million the House passed. And continue to challenge Facebook’s microtargeting, which you brought to our attention.

FOR MERKLEY: Thank you for your public support for the impeachment inquiry. Today, I am asking for your help to protect our elections. I strongly support the PAVE Act and other election security measures. Please fight for the targeted $600 million the House passed. And challenge Facebook’s unethical role in our elections.

Thank you.

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because . . .

. . . no matter how strong Greg Walden’s allegiance is to his party and Trump, patriotism demands that he believe our elections must be fair. Also, please tell him to support the impeachment process, as I do.

Through Greg’s actions and inactions, he continues to signal his full support for trumpism, regardless of how much damage Trump is doing to our democracy and to world stability. Know that we are still here and will continue working to flip ORD2 Blue in 2020.

Thank you.”
