As Trump talked about the state of our Union, he was busily undermining it and the institutions that have kept the peace in Europe and Asia for over 70 years. He refuses to listen to his intelligence advisors, choosing instead to listen to his gut.
Last week, Trump derided the consensus views of the heads of the FBI, CIA, and DNI who testified that:
- ISIS remains a major threat
- Russia and China pose serious cyber risks
- Iran is not now pursuing nuclear weapons
- North Korea doesn’t intend to denuclearize
Republicans and Democrats rebuked Trump for claiming ISIS was “defeated” and for precipitously withdrawing troops from Syria and Afghanistan.
Trump foolishly gifted the US withdrawal from the INF treaty to the Kremlin. Putin promptly responded by also withdrawing and announcing the production of new weapons, launching a new arms race. Good for business; bad for humanity.
Trump’s cavalier and ignorant beliefs and actions directly endanger our safety and security. They alarm Republicans and Democrats and foreign and domestic officials alike. They help and delight our enemies in the Kremlin and elsewhere.
Trump is our biggest national security threat!
Rein in this menace to our nation!
