THERE IS NO PLANET B! SUPPORT 100% CLEAN ENERGY BY 2050

#ActOnClimate

Today’s action is dedicated to the participants in tomorrow’s nationwide People’s Climate March.  https://ord2indivisible.org/event/peoples-climate-march-southern-oregon/

The scientific consensus is clear, climate change could cause economic disaster for millions in the not-too-distant future. Yet Trump, EPA head Scott Pruitt, and Energy Secretary Rick Perry prefer to protect their billionaire allies in the fossil fuel industry. http://bit.ly/1O4798K

TWO THIRDS of Americans support domestic greenhouse gas controls and an international, binding climate treaty such as the Paris accord, a historic plan to fight climate change endorsed by nearly 200 countries. http://bit.ly/2qdPiro

— Yet, Pruitt wants to exit the Paris accord (http://wapo.st/2prZAH5) and Trump plans another assault on the climate by executive order to expand offshore oil drilling in both the Atlantic and Arctic oceans. http://wapo.st/2ohnrsi

Some Oregon Members of Congress have acted: Senator Merkley just launched the “100 by 50 Act,” to phase out fossil fuels and transition our country to 100% renewable energy by 2050. http://wapo.st/2pmsdTW Both Senators signed a letter to Trump, asking him to rescind his anti-climate Executive Order. http://bit.ly/2pnVNbK

But we still have a long way to go to reverse the damage that’s been done. Make sure your Members of Congress know that you’re watching closely, and you expect them fight hard on climate issues.

Where’s Walden?!

**ACTION 1: CALL SENATORS WYDEN AND MERKLEY**
The most effective calls include a personal story about how this issue affects YOU. Do you live in a coastal community or one suffering from dangerous changes in weather patterns? Do you fear for your children’s future? Why?

FEEL FREE TO ADAPT THIS SCRIPT:
“My name is [–], a constituent from [city], Oregon. I would like to thank Senator [–] for his support for real climate science. I am impressed that Senator Merkley is moving forward on this issue with the “100 by 50” act. [For Sen Wyden, add: “I would like Senator Wyden to sign on as a co-sponsor as well”]. I would like the Senator to speak out strongly in support of the Paris Accord. Oregon Senators need to take a leadership role in Washington on this issue.”

**ACTION 2: CALL CONGRESSMAN WALDEN**
The most effective calls include a personal story about how this issue affects YOU. Are you concerned about environmental refugees? Or the impacts on endangered species? Why?

FEEL FREE TO ADAPT THIS SCRIPT:
“My name is [–], a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am very concerned that our president and his cabinet continue to deny the truth about climate change, despite of 97% agreement among climate scientists,. Our future is at stake, yet Trump consistently promotes fossil fuels over renewables. I would like Congressman Walden to follow Senator Merkley’s lead and introduce a companion house bill to the “100 by 50” bill which would phase out fossil fuel use by 2050. I would also like him to speak out strongly in support of the Paris Accords.”

**ACTION 3**
Call, text, and email your friends and family in other states to do the same! “Share” or copy / paste this action!

**ACTION 4**
Please consider other organizations you can ask to commit to moving to 100% renewable energy: city government, school boards, your employer, your university, etc.
