NEW MESSAGE AND MESSENGER REQUIRED TO FIGHT THE PANDEMIC
As we the people face the COVID-19 pandemic, we expect our leaders to calm the public and respect science-based responses that minimize our hardships. The Trump lead administration has proven themselves to be incapable of such a reasonable response to this crisis.
Trump’s Oval Office speech was full of misstatements and omissions about the healthcare system’s ability to manage the crisis, downplayed the massive disruption to our daily lives, and fueled his followers’ xenophobia by labeling COVID-19 a “foreign virus.” Not understanding the dynamics of viral pandemics, his “gut” overreaction calling for travel bans and cuts to payroll taxes which fund Medicare and Social Security will make matters worse, not better.
Biden and Sanders, by contrast, are acting presidential—detailing how a science and expert respecting government would respond.
To deal with the economic fallout, House Democrats have proposed legislation for paid sick leave, free virus testing and extended unemployment insurance. Even in the face of this major crisis, sycophant Leader McConnell is awaiting Trump’s response before moving forward.
Because of Trump’s incompetent response and McConnell’s partisan obstructionism, more of us will get sick and suffer financial hardship as the medical crisis arrives faster and lasts longer. More of us will face unemployment. More businesses will be pushed into bankruptcy.
We need an honest President, competent in crisis, committed to our safety and well-being, and a Congress that’ll work to undo Trump’s heartless policies.
