Last week Christopher Wray, Trump’s own FBI director, testified that Russia is “absolutely intent on trying to interfere with our elections.”
We’ve seen the videos of machines flipping votes in Mississippi. We know that every voting machine currently being used can be hacked. Russian online propaganda continues unabated.
#MoscowMitch McConnell stated that he would not allow any election security legislation to be brought to a vote by the Senate. Presumably to please Trump and many others—domestic and foreign to whom he is beholden—McConnell has blocked every single one.
And, never forget that Greg Walden fully supports the GOP’s crusade to mangle our electoral system in order to stay in power as a minority party.
The Federal Election Commission’s (FEC’s) job is to safeguard elections from domestic corruption and foreign influence. It now lacks a legal quorum to do business and has shut down. No member who has resigned since 2016 has been replaced. The FEC was working on election ad transparency when it was forced to stop meeting. We need a fully functioning Federal Election Commission.
Hand marked paper ballots will protect against election hacking. We need the PAVE and SAFE Acts.
Tell your MOCs to demand that every colleague who cares about Democracy must have the courage to overcome McConnell’s cynical obstruction to pass election security legislation, and to confirm qualified FEC candidates immediately.
