Call to Action: January 15, 2019
END THE SHUTDOWN
END INHUMANE TREATMENT OF FRIENDS
The country is suffering through a shutdown over Trump’s racist wall. But Trump’s racism toward our southern neighbors goes deeper. His regime has steadfastly enacted cruel, inhumane policies designed to stigmatize and separate families.
Trump and his heartless, bigoted regime:
- Created the policy of family separation. Ignoring warnings of psychological harm, damage from these separations will last a lifetime.
- Ended temporary protected status. Thousands of Salvadorans, Nicaraguans, Hondurans, and Haitians are threatened with separation from their family/children.
- Denies legal asylum seekers their rights. Under U.S. law, people requesting asylum at the southern border can stay in the country awaiting an immigration judge’s decision. This regime unilaterally barred asylum seekers from entering, requiring them to stay in Mexico.
- Staunchly supports self-proclaimed racist Representative Steve King
Greg Walden voted to remove racist Steve King from all congressional committees but has never condemned the Trump regime’s abhorrent white supremacist policies.
Stoking fear and division, and paralyzing the government are Trump’s real objectives. Because of Trump’s actions, we have a shutdown hurting federal workers/contractors, risking our safety and security, hurting our parks and air travel. Because of Trump’s racism, our neighbors and friends are suffering.
Say no to racism!
End appalling treatment of our friends and neighbors!
End shutdown with NO money for the wall!
**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**
SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY AND WYDEN:
For Merkley: “My name is [Name]. I am a constituent living in [town/city], ZIP code [number]. I thank the Senator for shining a light on the Tornillo prison camp which lead to its closing. I ask the Senator to pressure Mitch McConnell to do his job and reopen the government with NO money for the wall. After the government has reopened, I asked the Senator to 1) reintroduce and work for passage of the REUNITE Act and the Families Not Facilities Act and 2) reinstate Temporary Protected Status for those harmed by this administration. Thank you.”
