Call to Action: April 10, 2018

FIGHT FOR IMMIGRANTS

#NoBorderWall
#ImmigrationReform

Trump has launched new fronts in his ongoing war on immigration. For this racist president, visa applicants are likely to be terrorists, undocumented immigrants are probably rapists and drug dealers, and those shielded in the US on Temporary Protective Status have overstayed and need to go home, and they should take the Dreamers with them.

It can’t happen fast enough for him. Lately, Trump has:

• Ordered the deployment the National Guard along the border.
• Given immigration judges quotas to fast-track proceedings.
• Proposed rejecting green card applicants if they or a member of their family used federal assistance programs.
• Wants closed military bases to be used as prisons for undocumented immigrants awaiting hearings.
• Inserted a citizenship question to the census questionnaire, in a move that determines who is counted and who doesn’t count in Trump’s America.

It’s impossible to know if he is pandering to his base or deluded by Fox News. But it’s extensively documented that immigration is vital to America’s national security, economy, cultural richness and national identity.

We ask our MoCs to identify every Trump immigration move as part of his war on immigrants and to affirm that . . .

Immigration Has Always Helped Make America Stronger!

**ACTION 1: Call Complicit Greg Walden and our Senators**

SAMPLE SCRIPT  for Complicit Greg Walden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. I am calling to express my strong disapproval of Trump’s war on immigration. We already have a manpower shortfall and it will only get worse if the President further limits the number of legal immigrants allowed into the country. The Congressman can start by putting people ahead of his predominantly white nationalist party and supporting H.R. 4906, “Ensuring Full Participation in the Census Act of 2018,” to prohibit the inclusion of a citizenship question in the Census. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to express my strong opposition to Trump’s war on immigrants. I’m asking the Senator to speak out about the value of immigration to our country, our national security and our economy. Trump is undermining one of America’s oldest values, that we are all created equal and should have a fair shot at life, liberty and happiness. I also ask the Senator to support S. 2580, the “Every Person Counts Act,” to prohibit the inclusion of a citizenship question in the Census, as well as to continue the work to help DACA and TPS recipients. Thank you.”

**ACTION 2: Send this to Friends and Family**

Share this post and the following message with friends and family, especially in red states.

Robert F. Kennedy:  “Our attitude towards immigration reflects our faith in the American ideal. We have always believed it possible for men and women who start at the bottom to rise as far as the talent and energy allow. Neither race nor place of birth should affect their chances.
