HELP AMERICA: FUND CHIP AND STABILIZE THE ACA——————————————————————————
Our government is failing its citizens. Healthcare is a human right, and the United States is moving backwards on this front.
CHIP, which provides healthcare to 9 million children, lost its official funding on September 30th. States have been hobbling along on left over funds and borrowed money.
Many, like Oregon, will soon start sending out lost of insurance notices—to children—if new funding doesn’t come through.
The ACA has been the subject of repeal attempts and sabotage. Senators Murray and Alexander have a bill—with a filibuster proof majority—that stabilizes the ACA and decreases the deficit. But the GOP has no plans for a vote.
Open enrollment for the ACA starts November 1st. Instead of promoting and supporting this endeavor to expand healthcare access, the US government is detaining sick immigrant children immediately after emergency surgery.
Our government should be helping us be as healthy as possible.
Healthcare is a human right!
**ACTION 1: CALL BOTH OUR SENATORS and CONGRESSMAN WALDEN**
SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senators
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. I am very worried about CHIP and the ACA. Our country is failing to provide for the people. Please work to pass clean CHIP funding as well as the Murray-Alexander bill to stabilize the ACA. If these have not yet passed when government funding runs out in December, promise you will vote against the continuing resolution unless it funds CHIP and Cost Sharing Reduction payments. Thank you.”
