Call to Action: Tuesday, March 21, 2017

——————————————————————————————
DEAR HOUSE: VOTE AGAINST THE AHCA THIS THURSDAY!
——————————————————————————————
#ProtectOurCare

THIS THURSDAY, the full House will vote on the GOP “repeal and replace” AHCA plan. Congress has been feeling the pressure from constituents for months – now is the time to really turn up the heat! Let’s be outspoken in our opposition, so Congress knows exactly where its constituents stand.

Over the next two days, please consider one or more actions below to make your voice heard.

——————————————————————————————
**ACTIONS**

ACTION 1: CALL Greg Walden TODAY. The staffers keep tallies of calls. Let them make no mistake about your desires as they cast their vote on Thursday.

ACTION 2: VISIT Walden’s OFFICE IN PERSON BEFORE THE VOTE. You don’t need an appointment. Stay for just a few minutes. Bring a couple of friends or co-workers. Tell the staff that you came because you’re deeply concerned about the AHCA and wanted to make sure you are heard. And TAKE A PHOTO to share with our Discussion Group!

ACTION 3: CALL FRIENDS AND FAMILY
…and ask them to do the same. Especially if they’re in red Congressional districts!

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR PHONE CALLS AND IN-PERSON VISIT:

IMPORTANT: Tell a personal story about how the AHCA will hurt YOU or your friends and family members.

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am calling to URGE Congressman Walden to step away from the disastrous GOP plan—a plan that he helped shape—to repeal and replace the ACA. If enacted, the AHCA will have devastating effects on Oregon’s healthcare services and the people who rely on them. He is uniquely positioned to keep this bill from passing in the House, and moving to the Senate. It is the only honorable thing for him to do at this point. If he doesn’t show compassion for his District 2 constituents this Thursday, his reelection chances and legacy will be irreparably damaged. It’s literally a life and death issue.”

ADDITIONAL TALKING POINTS

–The ACHA will deprive over 20 million Americans of health coverage and make it MUCH more expensive for many more. Those hit most heavily include the low income, middle class, elderly, disabled, and ill; as well as rural folks—rural folks like those who make up a large part of Walden’s congressional district!

–The AHCA will NOT increase “access” or “choice.” Having ACCESS to a CHOICE you can’t afford is not a real choice at all!

–The AHCA contains $592 billion in tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations. It’s WealthCare!
