Call to Action: October 4, 2017

Once again, we collectively mourn after yet another mass shooting. This time, it was Las Vegas. This time, 58 people were murdered and 500 wounded, forging a new record.

In Las Vegas – as with most shootings – the sound of gunfire alerted people to the shooter, offering the chance to flee. Yet Congress is considering legislation that would make it easier for convicted felons, domestic abusers, and others to access gun silencers – accessories whose only purpose is to muffle the sound of gunshots. The legislation is called the “Hearing Protection Act” (yes, really) and it’s part of a larger package called the SHARE Act. (

It’s backed by the gun lobby, which stands to profit significantly. By their prediction, the gun silencer industry would multiply 10 times if this bill passes.

Congressmen DeFazio and WALDEN are both co-sponsors of the bill.

The vote was put on hold yesterday, but the GOP will likely bring it back once attention has subsided. We can’t let this slip under the radar.

Congressman Walden works for the gun lobby, but his duty is to represent US.

Let him know where you stand on gun silencers.

Remember his sponsorship and vote in 2018!

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am horrified by the mass shooting in Las Vegas – the most deadly in U.S. history. I am disappointed and appalled that the Congressman is co-sponsor of the Hearing Protection Act, which would make it easier for dangerous people to acquire silencers for their guns. The sound of gunfire saves lives – it alerts people to a shooting and gives them opportunity to flee. I am asking the Congressman to pull his sponsorship and vote against the Hearing Protection Act. We will remember his decision and his vote.”

I don’t understand why this legislation is a priority for Congress and the gun lobby. It will make us less safe and put lives like mine at risk.
