***Today’s Call To Action***

WANTED: NEW SENATE AND PRESIDENT

IN NOVEMBER

For the third time, a Presidential candidate could lose the popular vote but still win in the electoral college. Trump only needs a few battleground states to go his way.

Don’t count on a numerical majority. Republicans have been perfecting the art of suppressing votes for years by purging voter rolls, gerrymandering districts, fighting vote-by-mail, closing polling locations, etc.

Don’t count on fundraising. Democrats are $187 million behind.

Don’t count on discerning voters. Despite everything, half or nearly half of Americans in four battleground states (Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Arizona) recently approved of how Trump is handling the pandemic. There will always be “low information” voters who tune out the facts. Graphic from 2016:

As for the pandemic, it’s a wild card. States have a lot of power to decide how run elections. Republicans control 30 state legislatures, Democrats only 19. (One state is divided)

Senator Wyden recently introduced, and Senator Merkley co-sponsored, the Natural Disaster and Emergency Ballot Act of 2020 to ensure the integrity of this year’s election. Time is running out. Call your Members of Congress and tell them we demand that Congress protects the elections. Also, they need to hear that you support their efforts, that you are PERSONALLY COMMITTED to doing the work necessary to flip the Senate BLUE and win back the Presidency.

If not us, then who?

If not now, then when?

LET’S DO THIS!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY and WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

Please thank the Senator for sponsoring the Natural Disaster and Emergency Ballot Act, and for his tireless efforts to protect our elections. I want him to know that I will do everything I can during the 2020 election season to restore democracy and bring candidates with progressive agendas to the Senate, House and Presidency.

Thank you.”

The time for Greg Walden’s retirement is drawing near. I disagree with nearly everything he stands for, but hope we can agree on this: free, fair and transparent elections are the lifeblood of a healthy democracy. As a final act, tell him to work to protect this election and those in the future.

Thank you.”

#MyORHealth  Support is available for Oregon’s “helpers”

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.

“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”

The meetings are held using Zoom conference calls from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this link: https://zoom.us/j/4848426773. Please share this invite with anyone in your network of Oregon helpers.
