TRUMP IS GREATEST THREAT
TO
NATIONAL SECURITY
America’s intel community sees Trump as a national security threat. Intelligence officials are withholding information from the president because they fear he would stop their operations or even share them with foreign enemies.
So last week, Trump created an opportunity to plant his own spy deep within the intelligence community when he pushed out the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), quickly nominating a replacement whose chief qualification for the job was that he had repeatedly defended Trump on live TV. Trump excels at finding the most destructive individuals to run government agencies. Fortunately, that DNI nomination quickly self-destructed.
This job is a true hot seat. The list of threats confronting the US includes a war with Iran, combating a massive Russia cyber attack, and anything that Trump drums up with China.
Trump is no friend of intelligence agencies. He is deeply suspicious of the findings relayed to him in daily briefings, instead relying on his gut as a compass for navigating complexities.
Trump’s next DNI nominee must have intelligence experience and be able to candidly present assessments that might conflict with Trump’s views.
