Humanitarian relief is needed at the border because of cruel Administration policies and inhumane DHS actions, not because of a lack of money.

DHS has a combined $11.5 billion for US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and ICE.

–ICE paid $807 million to for-profit prison companies in FY2018 for substandard facilities and abusive treatment. Migrants work in slave labor conditions for pennies a day. ICE permits lax oversight of its already minimal standards.

–22 immigrants have died in detention facilities in the past two, years, plus four young children who died since December.

–CPB agents have dumped water in the desert, violated constitutional guarantees, abused detainees, and carried out the family separation policy in particularly sadistic ways.

DoD just announced that it will divert money to build 6 tent cities to be run by ICE.  https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/u-s-military-build-6-tent-cities-border-migrants-n1006161

Congress should not fast-track up to $4.5 billion in the guise of humanitarian relief.

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because . . .

I believe in an America where children and parents are protected. I want Congress to pass policies that keep families together and show mercy to refugees. Therefore, I do not support a deal to fast-track up to $4.5 billion for border patrol operations in return for disaster relief funding. DHS already has more than $11 billion for immigration and border security, which it is spending in cruel and sometimes lawless ways. Please speak against this deal and do not vote for it.

Thank you”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because. . .

Through his actions and inactions, Greg appears to fully support Trump—regardless of how much damage Trump is doing to our democracy and world stability. Let him know that we are still here, that we will be working to flip his seat BLUE — #2020StartsNow!

Thank you.”
