THE BUDGET MUST HAVE HUMANITARIAN AID AND PROTECTIONS FOR THOSE IN TRUMP’S CONCENTRATION CAMPS

Last month Congress passed a flawed emergency funding bill, gifting $4.6 billion to the Trump administration to continue their inhumane anti-immigrant campaign at the border.

How did we end up with this bill?

  • the GOP-led Senate voted down a House bill providing human humanitarian aid at the border
  • the GOP-led Senate approved a bill with no guard rails for how our neighbors are treated in Trump’s camps
  • conservative Democrats of the “problems solvers caucus” insisted that the Senate bill be passed with no amendments
  • the Senate bill passed the house with mostly Republican votes

Most of the Oregon delegation (Blumenauer, Bonamici, and Defazio along with Senators Wyden and Merkley) stood by our immigrant neighbors and voted against this bill. Yet again, WHERE’S WALDEN??

There is more work to be done.

Budget talks and investigation are coming up in Congress. We must keep calling our Members of Congress to make clear our demands that they:

  • work for a budget that provides humanitarian aid for those suffering at the hands of ICE/CBP and that contains no additional money to DHS
  • call for an immediate impeachment inquiry over the illegal conditions in these camps

Make your calls! Demand:

Humanitarian Aid for those in custody!
No additional DHS funding!
Impeachment Proceedings NOW!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because . . .

…I am devastated at the illegal treatment of our neighbors at the concentration camps at the border and am very disappointed that Congress passed a flawed spending bill, gifting $4.6 billion to the Trump administration to continue their inhumane anti-immigrant campaign at the border  I thank the Senator for voting no on this bill and I ask him to:

  • work for a budget that provides humanitarian aid for those suffering at the hands of ICE/CBP and that contains no additional funding for the DHS
  • call for an impeachment inquiry to hold Trump accountable for his crimes including these human rights violations at the concentration camps.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because . . .

…I am devastated at the illegal treatment of our neighbors at the concentration camps at the border and am very disappointed that Congress passed a flawed spending bill, gifting $4.6 billion to the Trump administration to continue their inhumane anti-immigrant campaign at the border  I ask the Greg Walden to:

  • work for a budget that provides humanitarian aid for those suffering at the hands of ICE/CBP and that contains no additional funding for the DHS.
  • call for an impeachment inquiry to hold Trump accountable for his crimes including these human rights violations at the concentration camps.

Through Greg’s actions and inactionshis silence has been deafening—he appears to fully support Trump, regardless of how much damage Trump is doing to our democracy and to world stability. Know that we are still here, we will hold him accountable, we are working to flip his seat BLUE — #2020IsNow!

Thank you.”
