29 Days Until The House Turns BLUE!

CONGRESS: END YEMEN WAR AND PUNISH KHASHOGGI’S MURDERERS

The horrific assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and Trump’s refusal to permit the CIA Director to brief the Senate about the Saudi Crown Prince’s responsibility, so angered Senators that they took a first procedural step to pass the Yemen War Powers Resolution (S.J.Res.54), extricating the US from the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

For the past three years, the US supported this war by providing bombs, refueling planes, assisting with intelligence. Despite putting 14 million at risk of famine and causing hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths, mass starvation, and the world’s worst cholera outbreak, Republican leadership prevented Congress from withdrawing this support.

This is your daily reminder that Greg Walden

is on the Republican leadership team.

The War Powers Resolution would suspend weapons sales and end US military involvement in Yemen—limiting Saudi capacity to kill defenseless civilians—and show Saudis their reprehensible human rights record won’t be tolerated.

While the new Congress must hold hearings on Khashoggi’s murder, we cannot wait months to pass the Resolution—during which time American weapons and assistance will add to the starvation and murder of millions of children and civilians.

There can be no Congressional backsliding. Congress must reclaim its war powers and end our unconstitutional complicity in the war in Yemen by immediately passing S.J.Res.54/H.Con.Res.138—either alone or during the continuing budget resolution.

Defund The Saudi War Machine!

Sanction Saudi Murderers!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WYDEN AND MERKLEY:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because I’m aghast that our government continues to support Saudi Arabia after its assassination of Jamal Khashoggi and is providing military support for the Saudi-led atrocities in Yemen. I want to thank Senator [–] for co-sponsoring the Yemen War Powers Resolution (S.J.Res.54) and ask that (1) he work to ensure its quick passage—either alone or as part of the continuing budget resolution, and (2) he insist any budget deal prohibits further US participation in this Saudi-led war. Thank you.”

I am calling because I’m aghast that our government continues to support Saudi Arabia after its assassination of Jamal Khashoggi and is providing military support for the Saudi-led atrocities in Yemen. I am asking Mr. Walden to finally part ways with the Trump regime’s chaotic foreign policy, PUT COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY, and (1) work for the immediate passage of H.Con.Res.138, which suspends weapons sales and ends US military involvement in Yemen—either alone or as part of the continuing budget resolution, and (2) help create support in the next Congress for hearings on Khashoggi’s murder.
