Call to Action: February 4, 2018

DON’T ABANDON DREAMERS AND TPS HOLDERS

#ImmigrationReform #DREAMActNow #SaveTPS

It’s time for Senator McConnell to start the process of protecting DREAMers. The February 8 deadline for funding the government triggers his promise to bring an immigration bill to the floor.

The Senate was supposed to be working on bipartisan legislation. But, Republicans wasted precious time last week by putting a 20-week abortion ban to a futile vote. Then they went on a three-day retreat. Dems are planning to decamp for their retreat on Feb. 7 – assuming a deal to fund the government passes. All this leaves DREAMers hanging yet again.

Congress continues to be mired in dysfunction, unable to govern. Let’s remind our MoCs that we are fully aware that DREAMers – and the newest Trump victims, Temporary Protective Status (TPS) holders – are still out in the cold. And then let’s call our friends in red states. All MoCs, Republican and Democrats, need to hear from their employers (aka voters) loud and clear:

Pass protections for DREAMers and TPSers.
Don’t allow this bill to increase barriers to immigration.
Support family reunification and keep families already here intact.

We are fighting for America’s identity. Let Congress know in no uncertain terms that . . .

We stand with immigrants!

Indivisible!

Where’s Walden!

**ACTION 1: Call Congressman Walden and our Senators**
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Congressman Walden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to insist that Congressman Walden put people before party and support an immigration bill that 1) provides permanent legal status to DREAMers and TPS holders, 2) keeps families together, 3) allows people to immigrate regardless of race. Trump’s proposal shames this country and should be opposed by everyone, regardless of party. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senators Merkley and Wyden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. February 8th is just around the corner, and Congress has not passed new protections for DREAMrs and TPS holders. It’s time to hold Senator McConnell to his word. I ask [Name] to fight for legislation that: 1) provides permanent legal status to DREAMers and TPS holders, 2) keeps families together, 3) allows people to immigrate regardless of race. Thank you.”
