STOP NEW ICE DEPORTATION POWERS

#ProtectImmigrants
#StopCruelImmigrationLaws

A sweeping package of anti-immigration bills that would “provide rocket fuel for President Trump’s mass deportation agenda” is going through House committees http://bit.ly/2r09mCc. We have to act NOW to stop them.

HR 2431( http://bit.ly/2qGiC9w and http://bit.ly/2roDy99) would:
expand mandatory detention categories and block detainees from seeking release on bond
make illegal residency a crime, with sentences up to 20 years
more than double the number of ICE agents and prosecutors
give the DHS Secretary the authority to revoke visas and permit deportation without review
withhold federal funding if federal immigration laws aren’t enforced
weaponize ICE agents with military assault rifles and expand their arrest powers

HR 2406 would codify ICE authority to issue detainers—the controversial practice of asking local police to hold someone for 48 hours after their release time. http://bit.ly/2sez4CW

HR 2407 would move the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (UCSIS) AWAY from facilitating visas to preventing visa fraud and security threats. http://bit.ly/2rbpAqF

If passed, these will be fought in the courts. But our MoCs must stop them from becoming law.

We MUST stand with our estimated 114,000 undocumented Oregonians http://bit.ly/2qGeSEU and tell our MoCs . . .

Vote no on HR 2431, 2406 and 2407!

**ACTION 1: CALL CONGRESSMAN WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I’m calling to tell Congressman Walden that I oppose a package of three bills, HR 2431, 2406 and 2407, that would make possible mass deportations of undocumented Oregonians. These bills violate bedrock rights to due process for everyone in this country, no matter their citizenship status. They are unnecessary for enforcing current immigration law. I call on the Congressman to oppose these bills. Thank you.”

Democrats and Republicans on Thursday faced off over immigration policy as a House committee began considering a set of immigration bills that Democrats say would amount to the creation of a “mass deportation force.”
