Urgent Call to Action: Thursday, May 4, 2017

URGENT – THIS IS IT!! STOP TRUMPCARE 3.0!

#KillTheBill
#ProtectOurCare

As of this posting, the GOP may have enough votes to pass TrumpCare/American Health Care Act (AHCA). All the back room discussions and last minute amendments worked. Representatives flipped their votes and Paul Ryan has scheduled a vote for TODAY. There is no final text available to the public and no CBO score.

—The AHCA will kick 24 million people off insurance, gut Medicaid, and give a tax break to the wealthy (http://bit.ly/2pwKFv4).

— The MacArthur amendment will take away coverage for preexisting conditions (http://nyti.ms/2qFdnr1). Jimmy Kimmel’s heartfelt monologue about his premature son (http://bit.ly/2p3JTTB) highlights this devastating consequence.

— The MacArthur amendment will allow states to wave essential health benefits – in individual and employee based markets. One state’s decision could CROSS STATE LINES thru EMPLOYEE BASED coverage with multi-state plans (http://brook.gs/2qxYgRd).

—- The Upton amendment will give an additional $8 billion to high risk poolswhich is NOWHERE near the ADDITIONAL $200 billion that is needed to help this population (http://bit.ly/2pIsbrV).

We can’t count on the Senate. They can rewrite the ENTIRE house bill to get 51 votes and still repeal Obamacare.

We MUST stop Trumpcare/AHCA!

The Oregon delegation is speaking out, especially Ron Wyden (http://bit.ly/2pG1H8l). We MUST flood the phone and social media. We MUST enlist the help of family and friends. We MUST show up in person.

Lives are literally at stake!

**ACTION 1** CALL OUR US REPRESENTATIVES:
The most effective calls include a personal story about how this issue affects you. Or, adapt our scripts:

SCRIPT FOR EVERYONE BUT WALDEN: “My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am proud to be part of a state with US Representatives such as Rep [–] who I can count on to vote no on the amended AHCA. I am asking the Congressperson to do more than vote NO: I’m asking [her/him] to speak up on this issue publicly and to their Republican colleagues and to demand a CBO score.”

SCRIPT FOR GREG WALDEN: “My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am appalled by Representative Walden’s past support for AHCA repeal and replace plan, especially with no CBO score. I demand that he stand up for us —his constituents whose lives are at stake—and vote NO on the amended bill. I’m asking the Congressman to vote NO and to urge his fellow lawmakers to do the same.”

**ACTION 2**
Contact friends/family and help them tell their Members of Congress to vote no on the AHCA. Find the latest whip count here http://bit.ly/2pxbEGQ

**ACTION 3**
Use social media to make it clear to moderate Republicans that they should vote no on the AHCA: https://trumpcaretoolkit.org/
