Call to Action: Friday, March 3, 2017

The hypocrisy is unreal. In 2010, Representative Greg Walden pushed hard for more transparency in health care negotiations, demanding that they be aired on CSPAN for the public. He also asked for more time for members to read draft legislation. To borrow his words: “We are talking about 1/6 of the country’s economy and a bill that will touch the lives of every American. The press, public, and members of Congress deserve to see the negotiations between the House and Senate bills.”

Today, as Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, he is leading the crowd guarding a top secret bill that will take health care away from tens of millions without a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) score to tell us how much it would add to the deficit.

WE DESERVE MORE, Representative Walden.

The 32 million Americans, 131,000 Oregonians and 29,500 Oregon District 2 residents who will lose healthcare coverage if ACA is repealed deserve to know how the GOP plans to take away their healthcare. So, why is the GOP treating this like some kind of treasure hunt or game of hide and seek?

Where’s Walden, and where’s the ACA replacement?!

We demand a CBO score on the top secret plan to take away our health care before ANY congressional action.

Sample Script

“My name is [–] and I’m a voting constituent from [city], Oregon, zip code [—]. I am calling today to demand that Representative Walden release a copy of the full bill his committee is considering to repeal and replace ACA, and that he submit that bill to the CBO to determine how much the GOP’s plan to take away our healthcare coverage will add to the deficit. It’s time for him to come clean and offer us the level of transparency he himself demanded in 2010 when ACA was originally debated. 32 million Americans, 131,000 Oregonians and 29,500 people in his own district depend on ACA . This is no time for political gamesmanship. Thank you.”
