CALL TO ACTION #1047: Demand Anti-Racist Future (November 10, 2020)

56 Days until the Senate Runoff Election in Georgia!

(Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossof)

Eight Ways to Help These Two Guys Win!

***Today’s Call To Action***

Demand Anti-Racist Future

We’ve all been anxious this election season. We had to beat back fascism in the face of rampant voter suppression. The common thread underlying both the rise of authoritarianism and voter suppression is the racism that’s so embedded in our structure and policies that those of us with privilege often fail to see it. We will not be able to protect our democracy or address the multiple crises we face until we acknowledge this fundamental reality.

The Democratic House passed the John Lewis Voting Rights and For the People Acts in 2019. Together, these bills restored Black voting rights established in 1964 — gutted by SCOTUS in 2013 — established a non-partisan redistricting commission, funded election security, and ended dark money. The HEROES Act provided funds to the state and local governments that pay for elections and the USPS. The McConnell led Senate has so far refused to vote on all of these bills, allowing the wealthy few to control our elections and DeJoy to undermine voting.

We commit to GOTV for the Senate run-offs in Georgia. We ask our members of Congress to name, condemn, and change the racism and the policies that disproportionately harm BIPOC communities.

Call Congress!

Demand Anti-Racist Future!

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

Please thank the Senator for all he’s done to preserve our democracy [For Merkley:  particularly introducing a constitutional amendment to end the Electoral College]. We must continue to push back on Trumpism even after defeating Donald Trump. Please ask the Senator to:

  • Publicly name, condemn, and commit to change US laws that disproportionately harm BIPOC communities.
  • Call on leadership to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights and HEROES Acts.
  • Advance the constitutional amendment to end the Electoral College [For Wyden: that Senator Merkley has introduced].

Thank you.”

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

It is past time for Greg Walden to name, condemn, and work to change racist US laws that disproportionately harm BIPOC communities — and then call on his GOP Senate colleagues to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights and HEROES Acts, as well as the constitutional amendment to end the Electoral College that Senator Merkley has introduced.

Greg sold us out on healthcare, the tax scam, big pharma, the internet and so much more. The least he can do at this point is to stand up for defeating systemic racism in America. Silence is consent. Silence is complicity.

Even lame ducks can quack on the way out the door.

Thank you.”

#MyORHealth  Support is available for Oregon’s “helpers”

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.

“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”

The meetings are held using Zoom conference calls from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this link: share this invite with anyone in your network of Oregon helpers.
