CALL TO ACTION #876: Why We Vote: Food, Housing, Healthcare & Effective Crisis Response (March 11, 2020)

Days

Until the November 3rd Election

WHY WE VOTE: FOOD, HOUSING, HEALTHCARE & EFFECTIVE CRISIS RESPONSE

COVID-19 underscores how much we are connected, how much our personal well-being is dependent on everyone else’s well-being. We progressives already knew that. We also knew government must do everything possible to protect us. We want an effective response to COVID-19. We want access to good schools, food security, safe housing, affordable healthcare, and clean air and water for everyone, because we know our security depends on taking care of people. We are in the same boat, on one very small planet.

Trump’s Republicans don’t care about anyone but themselves. They cut funding for pandemics and the environment. They cut programs that provide access to food, housing, and health care. They threaten to end Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. They claim their draconian actions are necessary, while disregarding the increased environmental, economic, and racial injustices that result. Their values and their actions are not what we want.

The November election will decide whether we live their vision or ours. SCOTUS will decide the future of the ACA just when we need it most, and the November election will decide what the court will look like as justices retire. This election is about the vision and values we want.

Join us to elect a President and a Congress that share our values!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR SENATORS MERKLEY AND WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling today because:

The Administration’s response to COVID-19 has been negligent and ineffective. Congress needs to create guidelines for social distancing and legislation to protect the income, housing, food, and health care security for workers without paid sick leave and the working poor. Tax cuts do not help people who can’t go to work.

Thank you.”
