Call to Action: July 12, 2018
WE NEED COMMON-SENSE GUN CONTROL NOT KAVANAUGH
In the U.S. so far in 2018 there have been:
- 30,429 people killed or injured by gun violence (excluding suicides).
- 173 mass shootings.
- 1482 kids killed or injured.
A strong majority of Americans support common-sense gun laws, yet this administration and many in Congress—including NRA supporter GREG WALDEN—have responded with indifference to the carnage and remain tied to the NRA.
Many states and local governments, including Oregon, have stepped in to enact gun legislation to protect their citizens. Every one of these laws has been challenged in court by the gun lobby. None of these challenges have yet been heard by the Supreme Court.
Trump’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Court, applauded by the NRA, could change that. Kavanaugh argued against a local D.C. assault weapons ban in the U.S. Court of Appeals and would be a pro-gun swing vote on SCOTUS. With his confirmation, the danger is real that the Court would now take “gun rights” cases and issue rulings declaring local gun control laws unconstitutional.
Our MOC’s must work to pass comprehensive gun legislation while doing everything they can to stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

I am calling to ask Greg Walden to put People Before Donors and to stop accepting money from the NRA and other gun industry lobbyists. It’s time for him to support and pass comprehensive common sense gun legislation. Thank you.”
**ACTION THREE: REMEMBER FOR THE MIDTERMS**
It has become clear that we need a different Congress to pass common-sense gun regulation.
- Make sure you and everyone you know is registered to vote.
- Keep up to date regarding Jamie McLeod-Skinner and her campaign for the Oregon District 2 seat in the US House of Representatives.
