Call to Action: February 8, 2018

PROTECT OUR HEALTHCARE /
FUND COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS

#Medicaid
#FixTheCliff

The GOP and this administration continue to come up with creative new ways to deny basic health care to those of us who need it most. Their latest gambit is to allow states to make devastating changes to Medicaid.

Trump is considering:

Medicaid Work requirements – being re-branded by Paul Ryan as “workforce development.” Sixty percent of Medicaid’s non-elderly adults already work. Income from minimum wage jobs can render workers ineligible.
Monthly premiums and lockouts for missed payments. Making monthly payments can be difficult for those without resources such as bank accounts and internet access. Indiana has already dropped 25,000 people.
Lifetime benefit limits. Plans submitted by states have included a variety of limits. All will result in denying health coverage to as many as possible.

Idaho has announced that they will allow insurers to offer plans that no longer follow ACA rules. To date there has been no comment from the administration.

Meanwhile, healthcare is at risk for 26 million Americans: Community Health Centers receive statements of bipartisan support, yet remain an unfunded bargaining chip in the budget negotiations.

Where’s #ComplicitWalden!

Call our Members of Congress and tell them to . . .

Protect Medicare and the ACA!

Fund Community Health Centers!

**ACTION 1: CALL YOUR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS**
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Congressman #ComplicitWalden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. Reauthorization of the Community Health Centers Fund (CHCF) MUST be included in any budget agreement, without a cynical demand for cuts in other healthcare funding. Attacks on Medicaid, which serves the most medically vulnerable constituents, must stop. I INSIST that Greg Walden put People Before Party and Donors and use his leadership position to push for full long-term funding for the CHCF and to stand with his constituents rather than working to cut health care benefits. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senators Merkley and Wyden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. As Congress reconvenes for yet another budget debate, we need the Senator to ensure funding for Community Health Centers and all health benefits. Massive Defense Department increases cannot be financed by reducing health care for any American. I also ask him to stop the blatant attacks on Medicaid by Republicans in Congress and this Administration any way he can. Thank you.

**ACTION 2: SHARE WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY**

Share this post with friends and family regardless of where in the U.S. they live. Help them call their MoCs. Protecting our health care benefits and Medicaid is vital for every community.
