Call to Action: January 28, 2018
STOP ATTACKING WOMEN’S RIGHTS
#NoAbortionBan #ProtectRoe #StopTheBans
Instead of working towards a DREAM Act, Mitch McConnell is spending precious time attacking women’s rights. The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (S. 1922), based on disproven theories that a 20-week fetus can feel pain https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-gops-20-week-abortion-ban-is-about-politics-not-science/, is up for a vote tomorrow http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/370613-mcconnell-tees-up-vote-on-20-week-abortion-bill .
This unconstitutional bill continues the GOP and Trump administration anti-women policies:
–rolling back birth control mandate https://www.vogue.com/article/trump-white-house-birth-control-mandate
–changing HHS’s strategic plan to defines life as “beginning at conception.”
https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2017/10/13/16449724/trump-hhs-abortion-pro-life-conception
–denying legal abortion access to teen immigrants

–ending funding to prevent teen pregnancy

S. 1922 would only address 1.3% of abortions and contains no exceptions for medical conditions. Women carrying a non-viable fetus or suffering serious health conditions exacerbated by pregnancy would have to carry a fetus to term.

Access to reproductive care equals economic justice for women by allowing for:
—economic empowerment: improving women’s wages
–educational opportunities: helping women to attend and stay in college
–reductions in child poverty
–a decrease in ovarian and endometrial cancer deaths

America can’t realize its full potential if women don’t have economic justice. Oregon’s Democratic MoCs understand this and are staunch reproductive rights advocates

Stop Senate Bill 1922!
**ACTION 1: CALL OUR SENATORS TODAY—leave a message before the Monday vote**
SAMPLE SCRIPT:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am very concerned about the GOP’s relentless efforts to curtail a woman’s right to choose. S. 1922, which bans abortion after 20 weeks, is up for a vote tomorrow (Monday). Please do everything you can, including a filibuster, to ensure that this bill never makes it to the President’s desk. Women’s rights to reproductive freedom are in your hands. Thank you.”
**ACTION 2: SHARE WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY**
Share this post with friends and family. Help them ask their Senators to do all they can to stop a 20 week abortion ban (S. 1922) and protect women’s rights
