On March 24th, the American Health Care Act (AHCA) was defeated. The AHCA would have taken health care away from 24 million Americans, cut $880 billion from Medicaid and — an added bonus – – a massive tax break to the wealthy.
Yet, the Trump administration and the GOP-controlled congress continue to push the AHCA, making changes that WORSEN THE BILL. The White House held meetings with the both far right and moderate Republican caucuses; they’ve amended the bill, proposing to let states opt out of “community ratings,” which would undermine pre-existing conditions coverage (http://huff.to/2ocFakf). Last week an amendment was introduced in committee to introduce a high risk pool for patients deemed unworthy for a standard insurance plan (http://bit.ly/2oNul9K).
Obamacare – still the law of the land and has stabilized the insurance market for all Americans (http://bit.ly/2nW4NDA). We demand affordable health care and Congress is responsible for making sure our current ACA system works effectively.
