BARR INJECTS TRUMP’S POLITICS INTO JUSTICE

Shortly after becoming Attorney General, William Barr pledged to Department of Justice staff that “Politics is not going to have a role in what we do.”  That promise exploded when a Trump tweet apparently caused the DOJ to ask for a lighter sentence for Trump-ally Roger Stone than the one DOJ prosecutors recommended.

All four DOJ attorneys resigned from the case. One left government entirely.

This weekend, over 2000 DOJ alumni demanded Barr resign because of his “interference in the fair administration of justice.” The federal judges’ association has called an emergency meeting about Barr.

At stake is a fundamental aspect of democracy, the “rule of law.” Lawyers say it’s the “evenhanded administration of justice.”

Our senators recognize the danger of a rogue Attorney General, calling for Barr’s immediate resignation because he “lied” to Congress about keeping politics out of the DOJ.

What does Greg Walden think of this flagrant ongoing abuse of power? We don’t know because he’s giving us the silent treatment again. Where is he, anyway?

We need our Members of Congress to keep up the pressure by calling for:

  • Investigations of Barr
  • Defunding Barr’s office until he and all Trump appointees recuse themselves from Trump-related investigations.

Stop Barr!

Stop Trump!

This is NOT a Drill!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPTS FOR SENATORS MERKLEY AND WYDEN:

MERKLEY: My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling today . . .

. . . because I am alarmed that Attorney General Barr is remaking the Department of Justice into a political tool for Trump. I thank the Senator for demanding Barr’s resignation. I ask the Senator to:

  • Publicly support investigating Barr in the House
  • Call for the four prosecutors who quit the Roger Stone case to be interviewed before Barr testifies
  • Support defunding Barr’s office until he and all other Trump appointees at the department recuse themselves from any Trump-related investigations.

Thank you.”

WYDEN: “My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling today . . .

. . . because I am alarmed that Attorney General Barr is remaking the Department of Justice into a political tool for Trump. I thank the Senator for demanding Barr’s resignation and for his investigation of Barr’s attempt to blunt a criminal charge against Turkey’s state-owned bank as a favor to Trump. I ask the Senator to:

  • Publicly support investigating Barr in the House.
  • Call for the four prosecutors who quit the Roger Stone case to be interviewed before Barr testifies.
  • Support defunding Barr’s office until he and all other Trump appointees at the department recuse themselves from any Trump-related investigations.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling today . . .

. . . because I am alarmed that Attorney General Barr is remaking the Department of Justice into a political tool for Trump. If Greg Walden does not call out Bill Barr’s flagrant abuse of power, then he’s aiding and abetting the crime. Please tell Greg it’s high time he:

  • Publicly support investigating Barr in the House
  • Call for the four prosecutors who quit the Roger Stone case to be interviewed before Barr testifies
  • Support defunding Barr’s office until he and all other Trump appointees at the department recuse themselves from any Trump-related investigations.

Even after announcing his retirement, Greg continues to signal his full support for trumpism, regardless of how much damage Trump is doing to our democracy and to world stability. Know that we are still here and will continue working to flip ORD2 Blue in 2020.

Thank you.”
