Call to Action #1066: Support Biden’s Bold Pandemic Relief Plan (February 2, 2021)

 ***CALL TO ACTION***

Support Biden’s Bold Pandemic Relief Plan

President Biden’s pandemic relief plan is bold and aims to help ALL Americans in need with:

  • Relief checks
  • Increased unemployment assistance
  •  $15/hr federal minimum wage
  • Extended eviction/foreclosure moratoriums
  • Billions in state and local government aid
  • Billions for school reopening

Congressional Republicans unilaterally passed tax cuts for their donors and corporate supporters last year, once again expanding the federal deficit they pretend to care about. Now, they want to slash Biden’s pandemic plan in the name of fiscal restraint. This level of hypocrisy would be laughable if it weren’t so damaging to America’s most vulnerable. Their preposterous proposal:

  • No Federal minimum wage increase
  • Cut who is eligible for relief checks
  • Cut the amount of relief checks.
  • Cut the amount of unemployment insurance
  • Cut the number of weeks of unemployment insurance
  • Nothing for state/local governments

We the People need Biden’s Bold Pandemic Plan, not the GOP’s watered-down alternative. Senator Wyden said it best: “The package outlined by the ten Senate Republicans is far too small to provide relief the American people need.”

Call Congress!

Demand Biden’s Plan Remain Bold!

Reject Republican Hypocrisy!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY AND WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

For Merkley: President Biden’s pandemic plan is bold and bipartisan – it helps people from all parties and is supported by people of all parties. I ask the Senator to make clear that:

  • This pandemic plan is a down payment on the relief we need, and the GOP must help their constituents and support this plan
  • Watering this plan down to appease GOP Members of Congress is not an option because it will hurt people and go against the wishes of GOP constituents for pandemic relief

For Wyden: President Biden’s pandemic plan is bold and bipartisan – it helps people from all parties and is supported by people of all parties. I thank the Senator for saying this in the Washington Post and in his public statement. I ask the Senator to continue to make it clear

  • This pandemic plan is a down payment on the relief we need, and the GOP must help their constituents and support this plan
  • Diluting this plan to appease GOP Members of Congress is not an option because it will hurt people and go against the wishes of GOP constituents for pandemic relief

Thank you.”

I am calling to ask that Cliff Bentz abandon his party’s fake fiscal concerns and vote for President Biden’s pandemic relief plan — supported by nearly 80% of people in both parties. We need Cliff’s help NOW to get through this pandemic.

Cliff Bentz WILL BE held accountable to all of his constituents, not just those who voted for him. He has sworn an oath; please remind him he must live up to it.

We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”
