***Today’s Call To Action***

Democrats Care!

Democrats Act!

Everyone deserves to exercise their right to vote, and everyone deserves to have their vote counted — without interference or intimidation.

Democrats work for their constituents and support free and fair elections. More people have voted for Democrats in every recent election. However, gerrymandering and myriad other forms of voter suppression have blocked our power, resulting in GOP minority rule.

Trump and his GOP have failed us as leaders. They are losing this election, and they are desperate. Trump broadcasts his intention to disrupt our election. His GOP breaks Senate rules to pack SCOTUS with yet another unqualified Trump appointee who’ll they hope will hand them the election, cement their minority rule, and ensure their interests usurp our rights.

We outnumber them. If we join together, we can overwhelm Trump and his GOP enablers with our votes and resist their attempts to undermine our will and our democracy. To do this, we must:

  • Work tirelessly to get out the vote.
  • Demand there be no SCOTUS confirmation until after the inauguration.
  • Insist all Members of Congress state publicly that election season ends only when we have all voted and our votes have been counted.

We will vote. We will resist. We will be heard.

Call Congress!

Vote BLUE Up & Down the Ballot!

Get Out the BLUE Vote!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY and WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

Election Season is underway. Please thank the Senator for all he does to protect our election and block the latest GOP court packing. I’m calling today to ask him to do even more to protect our votes and:

  • State publicly that Election Season ends only when all of us have voted and our votes are counted — without interference or intimidation — and insist your colleagues join you.
  • Demand there be no more GOP court packing — starting with no SCOTUS confirmation — before the inauguration.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

Senators McConnell and Sasse have paved the way for Republicans to break with Trump. I urge Greg Walden to denounce Trump’s rush to fill the SCOTUS vacancy with a nominee he’s chosen to help him stay in power. I also insist Greg publicly reminds his constituents, colleagues and the press that Election Season does not end until all of us have voted and our votes are counted — without interference or intimidation.

Silence is complicity.

Thank you.”

**ACTION THREE: BE AN ACTIVIST**

October 21, 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Ongoing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
#MyORHealth  Support is available for Oregon’s “helpers”

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.

“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”

The meetings are held using Zoom conference calls from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this link: https://zoom.us/j/4848426773. Please share this invite with anyone in your network of Oregon helpers.
