CALL TO ACTION #932: Shield Employers from Accountability, Workers Pay the Price (May 29, 2020)

158 Days

Until the November 3rd Election

***Today’s Call To Action***

Despite many examples of employers failing to provide adequate workplace safety protocols during the pandemic, Republicans are not advocating for improved worker protection. Instead, they are pushing to lessen legal accountability for companies. What happened to Of  the People, By the People, For the People?

Grim Reaper McConnell has declared that the Heroes Act just passed by the House will not pass the Senate unless it includes immunity from lawsuits for companies whose workers fall ill or die from COVID-19. Shielding companies from legal liability has long been a goal of the GOP, and they are using the cover of the pandemic to push their agenda. We the People stand to “Just Say NO!”

OSHA established emergency standards during the H1N1 outbreak. Under Trump’s mis-administration, it has not. Instead, along with the CDC, OSHA has issued only voluntary guidelines. not even requiring businesses to report the number of workers stricken with COVID-19. The CDC’s new guidelines state that essential workers who have been exposed but are still asymptomatic can be FORCED TO WORK. We the People stand to “Just Say NO!”

Protect the People!

Hold Business Accountable!

Save American Democracy FOR THE PEOPLE!

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

Congress should be working to protect workers from COVID-19, not protecting employers from the legal obligation to provide safe workplaces. I am asking the Senator to demand that the Senate version of the Heroes Act include protections for workers and uphold legal accountability for businesses.  I am also asking him to actively support the Every Worker Protection Act.

Thank you.”

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

Congress should be working to protect workers from COVID-19, not protecting employers from the legal obligation to provide safe workplaces. I remain OUTRAGED that Greg Walden voted against the Heroes Act. I DEMAND that he put the health and safety of his constituents ahead of the demands of corporations and their lobbyists.

Tell Greg that supporting the Every Worker Protection Act is a moral imperative and the very least he can do for the people of  ORD2 before he rides off to his lucrative retirement in December. Tell Greg that We the People demand he insist all economic relief packages include protections for workers and uphold legal accountability for businesses.

Thank you.”

“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”
