CALL TO ACTION #914: Healthy USPS Required for Healthy Society (May 4, 2020)

183 Days

Until the November 3rd Election

You probably have your ballot for state and local elections. If not, you can track it.

See link below.

Important Dates

Ballots Due 8:00 PM, May 19: Postmark DOES NOT COUNT

You can’t vote if you don’t get a ballot! Check here to track your ballot.

Don’t delay; study your voter pamphlet, make your decisions, mark your ballot, put it in the Postage Paid envelope, and mail it in or deposit it in a county ballot box (locations) before you lose it under a stack of bills! Urge all of your like-minded friends and family to do the same.

Progressive activism means voting the ENTIRE ballot, including seemingly obscure local boards and commissions, and those pesky initiatives.

Make the BLUE WAVE wash over every level of government!

***Today’s Call To Action***

HEALTHY USPS REQUIRED FOR

HEALTHY SOCIETY

Losing the US Postal Service would be catastrophic for our democratic society. Hard-to-reach areas will lose service. Service everywhere will become more expensive. The Haves and the Have-Nots will be separated further. A few years down the road, our postal service will look like our internet system and our health care system—available only where there are enough of people to justify profit-based service.

We need a healthy USPS Right Now to:

  • Support voting by mail.
  • Deliver COV-19 tests, medical equipment, and everything needed in hard to reach places – such as most of Oregon.
  • Deliver stimulus payments and unemployment checks.
  • Distribute the vaccine quickly and everywhere once we have one.

It is unfathomable that any president and his party would endanger the Postal Service during a pandemic. But we don’t have a normal president, we have Fake President Donald Trump and Grim Reaper Mitch McConnell who don’t really care about rank and file Americans.

Think about this: the Post Office employs 630,000 people. People. Living. In. Every. Single. Congressional District. Remind your members of Congress about this very significant fact. 183 days until the November election.

We DEMAND Publicly Funded Mail Service!

Fix the USPS NOW!

Protect Voting by Mail!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY and WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

I am calling again about saving the US Postal Service because it’s so important. We need the Post Office in order to vote by mail this fall. But we also need it to deliver stimulus payments and unemployment checks; medical equipment, supplies and everything else to hard-to-reach areas; to stay in touch with loved ones no matter where they live. It must not be allowed to bleed out. Please keep fighting for full funding to put the Post Office on sound financial footing.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

Greg Walden must know that the US Post Office is irreplaceable for rural Oregonians. We cannot afford to let it bleed out, or to be privatized. Our health system showed us what happens when a service becomes profit-driven. Tell Greg to stand up for us, his constituents, and to work with Democrats for full funding to put the Post Office on sound financial footing.

Thank you.”

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.

“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”

The meetings are held using Zoom conference calls from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this link: https://zoom.us/j/4848426773. Please share this invite with anyone in your network of Oregon helpers.
