ONGOING GOP BOYCOTT IN SALEM
“House Republicans walked out of the Oregon Capitol on Tuesday, joining their Senate colleagues in protest of a greenhouse gas emissions cap-and-trade bill.” (Statesman Journal)
The unacceptable behavior of the Oregon GOP state senators and representatives is ongoing as they continue to deny a quorum in both chambers. Action One below addresses actions related to this legislative malpractice.
WE NEED ELECTION SECURITY
No matter our zip code, we all deserve to be voters. But the GOP has systematically suppressed the vote – especially with voters of color – with gerrymandering, voter suppression, and voter manipulation. The GOP does this because they know their ideas do not win on their own.
We deserve a country where we all have:
- Food, housing, and medical care
- The ability to retire with dignity
- Time to care for our families
- The right to earn a living
- Clear air and water
- Education that allows kids to thrive
- And so much more
To have all of this we must vote for candidates that will make this happen. And we can only do that by being voters – free from voter suppression.
The Democratic-led House passed comprehensive election reforms in 2019. The Senate must do the same. But work in the Senate is at a standstill and the only legislation getting passed now are budget bills.
Call your Members of Congress today (sample scripts below) and insist they insert election reform and election security measures into must-pass budget bills.

**ACTION ONE: GET THE OREGON LEGISLATURE BACK TO WORK**
Join the Rural Oregon Climate Political Action Committee (ROCPAC) and citizens from all walks of life who are calling on Republican legislators to return to Salem and do the jobs they were elected to do!
Everyone interested and willing to connect and peacefully protest the walkout by the Oregon State Senate and House Republicans is invited to gather at noon daily at both the Jackson and Josephine County Republican offices.
