Call to Action: January 28, 2019

BACK TO WORK. WITH BACKPAY. AND NO WALL.CK TO WORK.

WHAT A WEEK! If you ever wondered whether calling your Members of Congress matters, this past week proved it beyond a reasonable doubt. We stopped the wall and reopened the government! THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR EFFORTS!!!

We called. We called. And we called some more. We called because the wall was wrong – morally, fiscally, operationally. We called because our fellow Americans were being held hostage to the whims of the toddler in the White House. We called because others were calling to support the wall.

Our calls made a difference!

They helped defeat the many attempts to repeal the ACA. They ensured that onerous work requirements for food stamp recipients were stripped out of the Farm Bill. They led to the defeat of racist judicial nominees. Even when Republican Senators didn’t change their votes, the calls led to fractures in their caucus.

Now we KEEP CALLING to:

  • Ensure that there is no wall funding in future appropriations bills
  • Make sure our friends and neighbors – including federal contractors — who were furloughed are made whole.

ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to thank the Senator for voting to reopen the government with no wall funding and for passing the Government Employee Fair Treatment Act.* I ask that he 1) continue to hold firm against any measures that would provide wall funding, and 2) ensure that federal contractors who have not been paid for over a month be made whole by passing reciprocal legislation to H.R. 339 (Low-Wage Federal Contractor Employee Back Pay Act). Thank you.

*S. 24 Government Employee Fair Treatment Act which was signed into law and provides pack pay for all federal employees, but not contractors.
