Call to Action: May 16, 2018

STOP THE CORRUPTION! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

We are fed up! Trump promised to drain the swamp but instead:

  • he violates the emoluments clause every day as he mixes public and private business
  • his sketchy lawyer/fixer, Michael Cohen, sells administration access
  • his cabinet is immersed in scandals
  • his administration is awash in nepotism, as his advisor/son-in-law gets loans from people seeking White House favors

On Sunday, Trump flip-flopped on ZTE, the Chinese company that pleaded guilty to illegally trading with Iran and North Korea, claiming: “Too many jobs in China lost.” That rationale seemed far-fetched. It was. Reports that the Trump Organization is benefitting from $500 million in Chinese government loans emerged just as Trump ordered that sanctions on ZTE be lifted!

AT&T, which opposes net neutrality, paid Michael Cohen $600,000 for advice on “regulatory reform at the FCC.” The FCC rescinded net neutrality. Novartis paid Cohen $1.2 million for “advice.” On Friday, Trump broke his promise to empower the federal government to negotiate drug prices. Pharma shares rose. And, the US affiliate of a company owned by a Russian oligarch paid Cohen $500,000.

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because I am fed up with the unprecedented level of corruption in this administration.  We are being subjected to violations of the Emoluments Clause and nepotism.  Michael Cohen had pay-to-play schemes with pharmaceutical and telecom companies and now net neutrality has been rescinded and we still have high drug prices. I ask the Senator to (1) investigate this relentless corruption (2) save net neutrality and (3) lower drug costs. Thank you.”
