Call to Action: April 23, 2018

RESTORE EQUAL ACCESS TO THE INTERNET

#NetNeutrality
#SaveTheInternet

When the Trump FCC repeal of net neutrality goes into effect it will mark the end of free internet access.

When Internet Service Providers (ISP) are no longer required to treat all digital traffic equally:
— Companies can pay ISP’s to have their content delivered ahead of competitors.
— ISP’s can favor their own content over competitors in delivery and pricing. Services can cost more. For instance, Comcast owns NBC and Yahoo. Want to watch something besides NBC? Read something besides Yahoo? It could cost you.
–Small businesses will be left out of the digital marketplace.

And if this wasn’t enough, Republicans are pushing the “Open Internet Preservation Act.” It would shield ISP’s from future FCC oversight and would block stateslike Oregonfrom legislating their own stronger net neutrality rules.

Walden is Selling Us Out!

The Congressional Review Act (CRA) seeking to rescind the repeal has 50 Senate and 160 House sponsors. States, including Oregon, are filing suit against the FCC, and passing their own net neutrality laws. Governor Brown signed a bill protecting net neutrality in Oregon on April 9th.

90% of Americans support net neutrality!

Congress must put We The People before corporate money from the telecom industry!

Save Net Neutrality!

**ACTION 1: Call Complicit Greg Walden and our Senators**

SAMPLE SCRIPT for Telecom Lobbyist Greg Walden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon, [zip code]. I am calling to express my OUTRAGE over the FCC’s order destroying net neutrality. Even though  Mr. Walden received more contributions from the telecom industry over the last 28 years than any other House member, he must now put the needs of his constituents first. I am asking him to protect the rights of Oregon – to oppose H.R.4682, the cynically named “Open Internet Preservation Act” and to vote to restore net neutrality by overturning this extremely unpopular, damaging FCC order. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT  for Senators Merkley and Wyden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling to urge immediate Senate action to save existing net neutrality rules. I appreciate the Senator signing the Resolution of Disapproval; I ask the Senator to work to get other colleagues on board so that the Senate can force its repeal, and to oppose S.2510, the so-called “Open Internet Preservation Act” Thank you.”

**ACTION 2: REMEMBER THIS FOR THE MIDTERMS**

Ask where your congressional candidates stand on net neutrality. Share this post with friends and family, especially in Eastern and Central Oregon. Greg Walden has taken over $1,600,000 from the Telecom industry. He says Congress should not “waste our efforts on partisan legislation like the CRA”. Make sure everyone you know is registered to vote! Net neutrality is essential to Democracy and we need to make a change in Congress to restore it.
