Call to Action: April 19, 2018
CONGRESS: DON’T TOUCH FY 18 SPENDING AGAIN!
#TrumpTaxScam
#GOPTaxScam
#Resist
Conservatives are furious Trump signed the largest spending bill ever passed. He had little clue of its size so now there is legislation to rescind billions in fiscal year (FY) 2018 domestic spending, driven by Trump’s fear of abandonment by his base.
A rescission bill could pass the House and needs only a majority in the Senate. While the tea leaves point toward failure, we must call to make sure!
— Two Senators on the appropriations committee are opposed
— Republicans note that reneging will harden democrats positions for FY 19 spending
Mounting deficits – due in part to the Tax Scam – also pressure Republicans to cut domestic spending:
— CBO projects that FY 2018’s deficit will be 21% higher after the tax bill and to approach 100% of GDP in the next ten years.
–Businesses received 9X more in tax breaks than what they passed on to their workers
–Bank of America’s tax bill dropped by $500 million in the first quarter 2018.
They. Will. Never. Stop. We can’t either. We must:

Elect A New Congress!
**ACTION: Call Complicit Walden and our Senators**
(Leave a message if you can’t get through.)
SAMPLE SCRIPT:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because I want [Member] to remain vigilant against cuts in domestic spending through a rescission bill. Protecting the safety net is a number one priority for me. Thank you.”
**REMEMBER FOR THE MIDTERMS: ASK WHERE YOUR CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATES STAND ON PROTECTING THE SAFETY NET.**
Congress has already damaged our safety net with years of reductions in real spending and repeated stop-and-start short-term funding in this Administration. This mid-term election, make sure your candidate spells out his or her position on restoring safety net programs, among them health care, education, job training, and housing.
