Call to Action: March 8, 2018
ACT NOW TO PROTECT DREAMERS AND NET NEUTRALITY
#DREAMActNow
#ProtectDreamers
#NetNeutrality
#FCCHandsOffTheNet
Critical, time-sensitive issues—like DREAMers’ and net neutrality’s fate —face Congress. Neither have votes scheduled. GOP leaders are moving Congress in other directions. We cannot let that happen.
The Supreme Court’s rejection of Trump’s DACA appeal buys the program time, but DREAMers’ futures are still at risk:
• DACA enrollees are protected, but not 3.6 million brought here as children
• No relief for 1.8+ million who became eligible after the DACA window
• Those with pending renewals are losing their protected status
• DREAMers are in limbo, fearing deportation to countries they don’t know and can’t navigate.
Congress must also save net neutrality — using the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to overturn (through Resolution of Disapproval) the FCC order granting internet service providers control over what we see, do, and say online. Time is running out — part of the 60-legislative-day window to overturn the FCC order has passed. Quick Senate passage will pressure wavering House members to support the Resolution.
Inaction is unacceptable!
Where’s Walden!
Hold him accountable for SELLING US OUT!
**ACTION 1: Call Complicit Greg Walden and our Senators**
SAMPLE SCRIPT for Telecom Lobbyist Greg Walden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am very concerned about two time-sensitive issues—the fate of the DREAMers and of net neutrality. I demand that Greg Walden do two things: 1) work to bring a clean Dream Act to a vote and 2) demonstrate that he will put the needs of his constituents first and vote to restore net neutrality, despite receiving more contributions from the telecom industry in the last 28 years than any other House Member. Thank you.”
SAMPLE SCRIPT for Senators Merkley and Wyden:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am very concerned about two time-sensitive issues—the fate of the DREAMers and of net neutrality. I appreciate the Senator’s continued support for a clean DREAM Act and for a free and open internet. I ask that he do everything he can to quickly bring for a vote (1) a clean DREAM act and (2) a Resolution of Disapproval to reverse the FCC’s net neutrality decision for a vote. Thank you.”
**ACTION 2: Get Your Midterm Game ON!**
It has become clear that we need a different Congress to help DREAMers and protect net neutrality. Make sure you and everyone you know is registered to vote. Keep an eye out for our soon-to-be-published plans for the midterm election. In the meantime, check out this list of great election resources.
