STOP FOREVER WARS

END THE YEMEN DISASTER

Before recessing last week, the Senate passed a rare bipartisan resolution to end US involvement in the Saudi-led war against Yemen. The House passed a different version, and in order for the resolution to become law, the House must now pass the Senate version without additions.

Congress needs to take the further step of reasserting its constitutional authority to declare war. To do so, it must repeal the 2001 and 2002 Authorizations of the Use of Military Force (AUMF). The AUMF has given cover to wars beyond the law’s original scope with no oversight by Congress.

Bipartisan support is building among members of  Congress uneasy over Trump’s inability to end forever wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and more recently Yemen. Now two powerful post-9/11 veterans groups at opposite ends of the political spectrum have joined forces to revoke the authorizations.

Congress needs to use its power of the purse when any president wants to involve the US in wars. And Congress must address the horrific ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Stop Funding the Saudi War in Yemen!
