Trump’s language is a threat to national security. Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald named it. Yet American media and politicians still hesitate to call the rise of racism—led by Trump, and supported by Greg Walden—the national emergency that it is.
Members of Congress must use their bully pulpit. These attacks on black and brown people are carried out by white supremacists inside and outside the White House, and they are leading us toward totalitarian rule.
Also, our MoCs, particularly our Senators, must fight to limit and control any new funding for DHS and its immigration agencies, ICE and CBP. These agencies are the tip of the spear for Trump’s most racist immigration policies. Any funding for 2020 must include the minimal guardrails that the House passed in its appropriations bill for DHS.
Our congressional leaders have powerful voices and powerful votes. Let’s ask them to shine a light on domestic white nationalist terrorism, and put controls on government agencies that are carrying out Trump’s racist policies. His white supremacy views and racist policies threaten national security.
