PASS DREAMER LEGISLATION
REMOVE STEPHEN MILLER
Despite massive support for Dreamers, the Supreme Court will likely vote 5-4 to permit DACA’s demise—validating the blatant racism and white nationalism at the heart of Trump’s anti-immigrant policies.
That would be sad day for the American Dream and DACA recipients’ contributions to our communities:
- More than 90% employed
- 45% in school
- 1000+ served in the armed forces
While Trump sometimes expressed support for Dreamers, advisor Stephen Miller always dissuaded him. Miller’s recent unmasking as a xenophobic white supremacist demonstrates the racist underpinnings of Trump’s anti-DACA policy and makes Miller completely unsuitable even for Trump’s administration.
Congress can immediately eliminate continued victimization of DACA recipients—Americans in all but legal status. In March 2019, bills were introduced in both Houses providing a pathway to citizenship. The Dream and Promise Act (H.R.6), which applies to both Dreamers and TPS holders, passed the House in June 237-187, with 7 Republicans – NOT INCLUDING GREG WALDEN – voting favorably. McConnell refuses to bring it or S.874 up for a vote.
Miller and his ideology don’t belong in government and our MoCs must work for his removal. We must also demand that H.R. 6 be brought up for an immediate Senate vote so Dreamers won’t continue being held hostage to racism.
