***Today’s Call To Action***

Vote BLUE!

Justice for ALL!

Following the murder of George Floyd, Democrats in Congress promised legislation to combat systemic racism in our country.  In June, the House passed The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.  It would ban police chokeholds and no-knock warrants, add restrictions on the use of deadly force and make law enforcement more accountable.

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act along with more than a dozen other anti-racism bills have been passed by the House or introduced in the Senate by Democrats.  They’ve all been blocked by Mitch “Grim Reaper” McConnell.

These bills would do things like:

  • Hold law enforcement accountable for misconduct in court, improve transparency through data collection, and reform police training and policies
  • Combat hate crimes and assist hate crime victims
  • Advance the safety and well-being of immigrants and refugees
  • Provide for public health research and investment into understanding and eliminating structural racism and police violence
  • End the racial disparities in COVID-19 testing, treatment, health outcomes, and vaccine access
  • Make investments to end the obscenely high rate of preventable maternal mortality among Black women

We have FIVE MORE DAYS to Get Out The BLUE Vote to return Democratic leadership to the Senate and White House. Work for justice and an anti-racist America.

Call Congress!

Get Out the BLUE Vote!

Liberty and Justice for All!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATOR MERKLEY AND WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

I want to thank Senator for fighting against Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation. I am working for a Democratic Congress and President so we can get rid of the filibuster, and pass anti-racism bills including The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act into law.  In the meantime, I am asking the Senator to keep working for COVID relief, and to fight to make sure that every vote gets counted.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

The confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court showed just how unfit the current Republican leadership is to hold office. I am working to get out the vote so we can get rid of the filibuster, and pass anti-racism bills including The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act into law.  In the meantime, tell Greg Walden, as my representative, to work for COVID relief, and to demand that every vote is counted.

Greg sold us out on healthcare, the tax scam, big pharma, the internet and so much more. The least he can do at this point is to stand up to the most corrupt and inept president in modern history. Silence is consent. Silence is complicity.

Thank you.”

**ACTION THREE: BE AN ACTIVIST**

October 30, 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Ongoing every Monday, Wednesday and Friday
#MyORHealth  Support is available for Oregon’s “helpers”

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.

“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”

The meetings are held using Zoom conference calls from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this link: https://zoom.us/j/4848426773. Please share this invite with anyone in your network of Oregon helpers.
