CALL TO ACTION #1019: Make the Financial System Work for THE PEOPLE! (October 1, 2020)

33 Days

Until the Election is Over!

We’ve been calling it the November 3rd election, but it really takes place in OCTOBER.

Just 14-20 Days Until Ballots Mailed!

Mail service could be iffy this year with Trump and DeJoy attacking the USPS. We urge you to vote early, use a ballot box if you can get to one, then track your ballot (more on tracking once the ballots are mailed).

Important Dates:

October 13: Last day to register to vote; postmark or online by 11:59 pm

October 14-20: Voter’s ballots mailed; find your ballot box

October 20: Last day for county Voter’s Pamphlet distribution

October 21: Our recommended last day to mail your ballot

November 3: Ballots must be in a ballot box or with the county clerk by 8 pm

We invite you to watch and share this YouTube video by ORD2 Indivisible co-founder, Jessica Sage:

***Today’s Call To Action***

Make the Financial System Work for THE PEOPLE!

Trump’s tax avoidance is really about a corrupt and broken financial system that rewards the wealthy at the expense of the working/middle class. Trump has taken advantage of this system—and it will get worse if he is reelected. We must stop him from consolidating power.

Trump thinks the best way to help the economy is to keep taxes low for the wealthy and corporations. To him, a millionaire paying $750 in taxes while a teacher pays $7,000 is a system that works. Trump’s top second term priority is to keep cutting taxes for corporations/wealthy investors, paid for by slashing Medicare/Social Security.

Biden’s plan is popular and helps the average American:

  1. $15 federal minimum wage.

  2. 12 weeks paid family leave.

  3. Higher taxes on the wealthiest 1% and big corporations, cutting taxes for the middle class.

  4. Free college for families making < $125,000.

  5. Expanded rent subsidies for low-income families.

We must make our Get Out The Vote messaging clear – this is bigger than just Trump’s taxes.  It is about who can lead us out of the Trump economic recession. If Trump has his way, people like him will be fine. The rest of us will suffer. Remember, Trump and his GOP enablers care about one thing, staying in power.  Our job is to take back that power.

Demand a Government Of, By and For The People!

Work for a Big, Beautiful BLUE Landslide!

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon [zip code].

Trump’s tax avoidance is really about a corrupt and broken financial system that rewards the wealthy at the expense of the working and middle class. I believe that a fairer tax code is a top priority for the next Congress.

For this Congress, please ask the Senator to help pass the HEROES Act and use all the tools at his disposal to stop the Supreme Court confirmation until after the next inauguration.

Thank you.”

Tell Greg Walden that I demand him to put country over party, that he supports the HEROES Act and that he opposes any Supreme Court appointment until after the inauguration in January.

Silence is complicity.

Thank you.”

#MyORHealth  Support is available for Oregon’s “helpers”

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.

“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”

The meetings are held using Zoom conference calls from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at this link: Please share this invite with anyone in your network of Oregon helpers.
