CALL TO ACTION #747: Trump’s Only Strength and Our Human Weakness (August 23, 2019)
TRUMP’S ONLY STRENGTH AND OUR HUMAN WEAKNESS
Remember Jean Carroll? Just weeks ago, she accused Trump of raping her in the dressing room of a New York department store. That allegation evaporated over a weekend.
The President suffered no damage.
Trump has withstood, and even thrived, amid attacks that would have left other politicians little more than a stain on the sidewalk.
He survives because he knows he can outlast his critics.
To buy time, he lies, baits and threatens accusers, attacks trusted institutions and, if all else fails, as President, he shifts the spotlight. Time passes and amazement no longer amazes.
Coupled with the velocity of his horrors, it is almost impossible to maintain outrage when outrages are unrelenting.
This is Trump fatigue. As it spreads, America is in danger of becoming a zombie nation, muted in response to the latest act of cruelty, crimes or Constitutional abuse.
Occasionally, some horrendous event – like a racist murdering 22 “Mexicans” in an El Paso Walmart – awakens us to his dangers. But without a fight, El Paso too will fade.
When we call again and again for impeachment proceedings, we are fighting Trump fatigue. We want the same persistence and leadership from our Members of Congress.
Demand accountability.
Demand truth.
**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**
SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY AND WYDEN:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling because . . .
. . . I am asking you to take the lead on calling for impeachment proceedings and I ask that you do so by publicly calling attention to the necessity of the impeachment process. Trump is banking on us becoming exhausted by the velocity of his horrors. I am not exhausted. I am outraged at his crimes, his corruption, and his racism. I depend on you to lead on this issue by reminding people daily of his offenses.
Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**
SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].
I am again calling for impeachment proceedings. Trump wins because he is not held accountable for his racism, his corruption and his criminal behavior. Your reluctance to defend the Constitution is allowing him to further divide the country and dismantle our democracy. You represent me and the majority of voters in your district want this.
