DAYS UNTIL BALLOTS DUE: 8
PROTECT OUR SAFETY NET
Greg Walden and the GOP House have tried to repeal the ACA more than 50 times. McConnell says that a GOP controlled Senate will try again in 2019.
Flip the Senate and House BLUE!
Trump is staging campaign rallies for Republicans promising protections for pre-existing conditions. Last week new rules were issued for waivers making it easier for states to offer non-ACA compliant junk health insurance plans designed to weaken the ACA, and to eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
A pending lawsuit seeks to invalidate ACA’s pre-existing condition protections and ultimately have the ACA declared unconstitutional. Sessions’ DOJ has declared that it will not defend the ACA.
The Farm Bill, which funds the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) remains unauthorized. Republicans have added requirements for SNAP assistance which would create food insecurity for millions who would lose eligibility.
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) provides protections and assistance that saves lives. Following Brett Kavanaugh’s elevation to the Supreme Court, it’s not surprising that the reauthorization of the VAWA is being threatened by Conservatives. They object to extending its protections to marginalized women and want to ensure that violent domestic partners retain their gun rights.

Protect Healthcare and SNAP!
Fully Reauthorize VAWA!
**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am concerned about continued threats to the health care and food security of all Americans. Please tell the Senator to 1) continue to protect the ACA, 2) oppose the House-passed work requirements along with other restrictions that will make accessing SNAP benefits difficult, and 3) do everything you can to ensure that the Violence Against Women Act is reauthorized. Thank you.”

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent and voter from [city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling about threats to the health care and food security of Greg Walden’s constituents. Please tell him that I am OUTRAGED by his support of efforts to undermine the ACA and his vote to support the House Farm Bill. He has a MORAL OBLIGATION to change his position and work with conferees to 1) oppose the House-passed work requirements along with other restrictions that will make accessing SNAP benefits difficult and 2) to keep the Senate-passed expanded funding for SNAP employment and training programs.
