STOP TRUMP FROM DESTROYING THE USPS LIKE HE DESTROYED THE DOJ
The USPS, in existence since nation’s founding, connects us to distant family and friends, delivers medications, paychecks, online packages, and communications from our government. Voting by mail is now a necessity due to COVID-19. Now is the time to strengthen the Post Office, not undermine this critical democratic institution.
For decades, the GOP has erected obstacles to voting through strict voter ID, limiting registration opportunities, purging voter rolls, opposing early voting—which pale in comparison to the fear of contracting COVID-19 if we must vote in person. While Trump regularly votes by mail, he refuses to extend that right to others, wrongly believing it favors Democrats.
Republicans clearly are terrified that an actual functioning democracy would vote them out of power. They are showing their contempt for The People. Right out in the open. Plain and simple.
Destroying the USPS and the standard of living enjoyed by its 650,000 workers just became more likely with the installation of Louis DeJoy, a top GOP donor and Trump crony, as Postmaster General. DeJoy bought his position and will do Trump’s bidding. DeJoy:
- Has no USPS experience
- Turned donations into profitable government contracts
- Owned and ran New Breed Logistics which a jury found guilty of sexual harassment & retaliation. The jury awarded $1.5 million to the victims.
- Instituted business practices that caused pregnancy miscarriages
We cannot allow Trump to weaponize the USPS when states are mobilizing vote-by-mail efforts. If Congress fails to act, our democracy and the 2020 election are at risk.

Lines for Life has created a Virtual Wellness Room to offer support to helpers, mental health professionals, first responders, social workers and anyone considered an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic in Oregon. Each check-in call will have a facilitator to guide the conversation.
“We at Lines for Life want to thank you for all the work you do to keep our communities safe,” the organization said. “We are offering a place for helpers to exchange stories of hope and areas of need. We especially want to hear what things are coming up for you personally and explore how we can cheer one another on to continue the good work you are already doing. We ultimately want to create space to breathe out stress and breathe in hope.”
