WHY WE VOTE WEDNESDAY:

GET DRUG PRICES DOWN

Prescriptions cost American families an average of $3,000.00 a year, more than double than in other developed countries. Almost 25% of Americans struggle to fill needed prescriptions because of cost.  Some are forced to skip or take reduced dosages of essential medication and simply hope for the best.

Many of these drugs have been around for decades and are inexpensive to produce.  Yet corporations holding patent monopolies are able to raise prices at will and they do. In other words, they put obscene profits over people.

In 2016, Donald Trump campaigned on lowering prescription drug costs and initially supported the House bill which would do just that.  He also installed former big pharma lobbyists as his top healthcare adviser and Health and Human Services Secretary. Characteristically, he withdrew support and announced he would veto the House bill if it passed the Senate. In other words, Trump puts obscene profits over people.

Guess who else is in Big Pharma’s pocket?

As long as Trump is in office and there is a Republican majority in the Senate giving McConnell the power to obstruct Democracy by sitting on bills passed by the House, pharmaceutical companies will thrive and American families will suffer.

We Need Another Blue Wave!

Defeat Trump! Flip the Senate!

Pass Drug Price Legislation!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY AND WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling today because. . .

For Wyden: The high prescription drug prices which are fueling obscene profits for Big Pharma  are literally killing Americans.  I want to thank the Senator for introducing the Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act.  While he is working for a fair impeachment trial, I ask him to work to push past  Mitch McConnell’s obstructionism and pass relief on drug prices.

For Merkley: The high prescription drug prices which are fueling obscene profits for Big Pharma  are literally killing Americans.  While he is working for a fair impeachment trial, I ask him to work to push past  Mitch McConnell’s obstructionism and pass relief on drug prices.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code]. I am calling today because. . .

. . .the high prescription drug prices which are fueling obscene profits for Big Pharma are literally killing Americans.  Greg Walden, who is among the top 10% Congressional recipients of Big Pharma dollars, has stated that he has “stood up to Big Pharma.” Yet he voted against the Lower Drug Costs Now Act.  It’s time for him to put his constituents before his corporate donors. I am asking him to work to push past Mitch McConnell’s obstructionism and pass relief on drug prices.

Even after announcing his retirement, Greg continues to signal his full support for trumpism, regardless of how much damage Trump is doing to our democracy and to world stability. Know that we are still here and will continue working to flip ORD2 Blue in 2020.

Thank you.”

SPECIAL REQUEST TODAY!
Join the Jackson County workers and community partners at 9:00 a.m. TODAY, January 15, at the Old County Courthouse (10 S Oakdale Medford) for the County Commissioners meeting.

Jackson County workers are fighting for a fair contract that will provide them with adequate healthcare and a living wage. Workers currently earn 15-28% less compared to the same workers in other counties, and the Public Employees’ Benefit Board (PEBB) is a clear choice for fixing the healthcare issues they are facing. However, county commissioners are refusing to allow their employees to elect PEBB, the same healthcare system that covers 140,000 state employees, keeping them instead on a more expensive, less comprehensive standalone plan. PEBB will save the county nearly $1 million in the first year alone while providing better coverage. You can help support these workers by telling county commissioners these employees deserve respect, affordable healthcare, and fair wages. There will be a section of the meeting for public comments beginning at 9:15 AM.
