CALL TO ACTION #900: Voting in Person is now an Unacceptable Health Risk! Vote-by-Mail is the Solution! Fund the Postal Service! (April 14, 2020)

204 Days

Until the November 3rd Election

VOTING IN PERSON IS NOW AN UNACCEPTABLE HEALTH RISK!

VOTE-BY-MAIL IS THE SOLUTION!

FUND THE POSTAL SERVICE!

We are all stronger when everyone has secure access to safe, affordable housing, food, and health care. We are all stronger when everyone can vote. Our elected officials’ jobs are to ensure these rights and protect the postal service that makes them possible. COVID-19 leaves us all more dependent on the government to obtain and distribute medical and financial resources fairly. Yet we entered this crisis with huge segments of the population disadvantaged by the system’s flaws, voter suppression, a severely underfunded postal service, and a demonstrably corrupt Administration.

Trump and his GOP care only about themselves, and Roberts’ SCOTUS enables them. They fear that our vote will end their power. They oppose any spending that doesn’t benefit them and their donors and refuse to negotiate. They misuse money appropriated by Congress to reward their supporters and punish opponents. Then they cover up their corruption by refusing to comply with legislative oversight and by firing Inspectors General.

Full funding for vote-by-mail and the USPS, and guaranteed legislative oversight, are our only avenues to change. We must oppose any funding package that doesn’t include these three essentials, even if that means withholding unanimous consent.

Demand that Congress Does Its Job!

Fund VOTE-BY-MAIL and the USPS!

Restore Full Congressional Oversight!

**ACTION ONE: CALL OUR U.S. SENATORS**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR SENATORS MERKLEY and WYDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

Please thank the Senator for everything he is doing to protect our health and our vote. We shouldn’t have to choose between them. I am calling to urge the Senator to refuse unanimous consent for another spending package that doesn’t include full funding for vote-by-mail and the post office, and for guaranteed legislative oversight of all funds appropriated by Congress. Without these three things, we can’t ensure the package won’t be used to reward supporters of the Trump GOP while failing to provide for the rest of us, and used also to suppress our vote.

Thank you.”

**ACTION TWO: CALL COMPLICIT GREG WALDEN**

SAMPLE SCRIPT FOR WALDEN:

“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [town/city], Oregon [zip code].

I am calling to demand that Greg Walden puts his constituents before his party and his president. He must ensure that we don’t need to choose between our health and our right to vote. Tell Greg to not vote for another spending package that doesn’t include fully funding vote-by-mail and the post office, and that also does not guarantee legislative oversight of all funds appropriated by Congress. Without these three things, we can’t ensure the package will be used to provide for our needs as his constituents.

Thank you.”
