OUR DEMOCRACY IS UNDER ATTACK – CONGRESS MUST ACT

#Ethics
#ImpeachmentHearingsNow

Trump is destroying the democratic norms underpinning our government. Congress must act NOW to save our democracy.

While Russia consumes the news:
Trump undermines and attacks the courts and media http://nyti.ms/2rNiid4
Trump violates the Constitution’s Emoluments Clause http://theatln.tc/2qd4JUQ and a politicized Justice Department defends this http://wapo.st/2spDOWj
visitor logs are no longer public http://n.pr/2pjpB8R
sweeping ethic waivers are granted to lobbyists http://bit.ly/2ssFmLE
still unstaffed critical posts create vulnerability on all fronts http://wapo.st/2rCe084
federal agencies are told to withhold information from Congress http://politi.co/2riKaFN
leaders of national intelligence refuse, without legal basis, to answer Senate Intelligence Committee’s questions http://lat.ms/2rScTzJ

Trump/Russia threatens our country:
Trump asked Comey to pledge LOYALTY, lift the CLOUD over the presidency and STOP investigating Flynn http://cnn.it/2sEgWiW
Trump asked intelligence officials to pressure Comey to drop Russian investigation http://wapo.st/2r6TpFr
Trump FIRED Comey over Russia investigation http://nyti.ms/2rApRAT

Trump’s disregard for democratic norms and potentially illegal actions are shaking our government’s foundations. Oregon MoCs are resisting—EXCEPT WALDEN (http://bit.ly/2sUMlgE, http://bit.ly/2rMZ8m4, https://usat.ly/2r3BIvg), but Congress MUST DO MORE!

Congress needs to DO ITS JOB–provide OVERSIGHT, INVESTIGATIONS. ENFORCE the Emoluments Clause, hold in CONTEMPT refusals to testify, and start IMPEACHMENT hearings.

America’s fate hangs in the balance!

**ACTION 1: CALL CONGRESSMAN WALDEN**
(if you can’t call during business hours, leave a voice mail! It all makes a difference!)

SAMPLE SCRIPT
“My name is [–] and I’m a constituent from [city], Oregon. I am gravely concerned about the loss of democratic norms in the Trump presidency and the flagrant abuse of the Constitution, especially when it comes to the emoluments clause and involvement with Russia. I urge Congressman Walden to put country over party, lead the charge in Congress to place a check on the Trump administration, and to do all he can to bring HR 356* to the floor to establish an independent commission on Russia and support the start of impeachment proceedings. We must act now or our democracy may not survive.”

**ACTION 2: CALL SENATORS WYDEN AND MERKLEY**
